Southampton are keen to sign Celtic target Patrick Roberts on a season-long loan from Manchester City.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino is desperate to add the 20-year-old to his ranks and bolster his attacking options but will be made to wait by City boss Pep Guardiola.
Roberts, who became a huge fans’ favourite at Parkhead during his 18-month loan stint, is currently stateside with the Premier League outfit after being named in the 27-man squad for their US tour.
Guardiola has insisted he wants to take a look at Roberts during pre-season before deciding whether to let the former Fulham youngster leave the Etihad, either on loan or in a permanent move.
French side Nice have also registered an interest in taking Roberts on loan but Pellegrino is hoping the chance to prove himself in England’s top flight can help him seal a deal should the youngster’s future lie away from hs parent club.
Roberts, scored 17 goals in 60 appearances for Celtic and boss Brendan Rodgers still remains hopeful of seeing the England Under-20 international make a return to the Premiership champions.
