Marcos Alonso is reportedly open to signing a new deal with Chelsea, having been a vital player for Thomas Tuchel following his arrival at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard appeared to be on his way out of the West London club following to his struggles for action under Frank Lampard, with the 30-year-old defender only making three Premier League appearences under the Englishman during the 2020-21 campaign.

Alonso has featured in five of the Blues six games under Tuchel in the English top-tier, though, and now looks to be ahead of Ben Chilwell in the pecking order for the left-sided forward position.

According to The Sun, the Spaniard is keen to sign a new deal with the London heavyweights as he appears to be an vital part of the new manager’s plans moving forward.

Alonso’s existing contract in the capital is due to expire in June 2023, however, the ex-Real Madrid starlet is believed to be looking for an extension until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Chelsea are next in action against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on Tuesday night, with the clash following to take place in Romania.
