Chelsea plan to follow up the capture of Christian Pulisic by signing a striker and a defender this January transfer window.
The US international arrived from Borussia Dortmund in a £58 million deal but was immediately loaned back to the German club for the rest of the season.
Maurizio Sarri is eager to add more firepower and solidity to his faltering side after starting 2019 with a goalless draw with Southampton.
The Mirror claims the Blues are plotting the addition of a striker and a defender before January ends.
The West London club want to ease the goalscoring burden on Eden Hazard and have been linked with a host of forwards, including Gonzalo Higuain and Callum Wilson, who is the most likely of the targets to join Chelsea.
‘On the bench, I tried to do my job. I think we played a very good match for 80 metres of the pitch, then we were in trouble in the last 20 metres,’ said Maurizio Sarri.
‘We have to try to solve the problem of the last 15, 20 metres. ‘The club knows very well my opinion. I think we need something different for characteristics.
‘I’m not in charge of the market. I have to try to improve my players, my team, my offensive phase, or better my offensive phase in the last 20 metres. ‘The club knows my position, my opinion. It’s up to the board.’
