Chelsea considering surprise summer move to sign former Liverpool No.10

According to the latest transfer news, Chelsea, alongside Manchester United have been given hope of signing Barcelona superstar Philippe Coutinho in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian completed a dream move to the Catalan club back in January 2018 after Camp Nou giants agreed to pay Liverpool an initial £105m to sign the former Inter Milan ace.

While Coutinho won three titles in the first few months of his career at Camp Nou, he is now being linked with a departure following a disappointing season. Coutinho has scored only four league goals, with Ousmane Dembele often starting ahead of him before his recent injury.

Barcelona hoped the 26-year-old playmaker would cement his place in the starting XI while Ousmane Dembele was sidelined but that has not materialised and the ex-Liverpool midfielder was taken off in the second half of the Copa del Rey clash with Real Madrid last week.

The reports from Spanish publication Marca claim that Barcelona are already considering the idea of selling Philippe Coutinho during the summer transfer window. It is also believed that club officials are still backing him to turn things around, however, his potential summer exit is no longer deemed completely unreasonable.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said last week that Catalan club were not considering selling Coutinho.

But Madrid based newspaper Marca claim that if Coutinho’s performances do not improve before the end of the season, Brazil international could be offloaded, with Chelsea and Man United desperately chasing for his services.

The creative Brazilian could be considered as the direct replacement of Eden Hazard, who is likely to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
