London giants are looking to add more additions to their team before the transfer window closes. Blues will focus their efforts on signing Hammers star Declan Rice after completing the signing of shot-stopper Edouard Mendy in the ‘next days’, it’s been claimed.
Chelsea have been after a new goalkeeper all summer, with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s place in the side under threat.
Blues coach also wants to solidify his back-line and has already signed Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr. It’s thought that England international is being targeted with a view to putting him at defence, but he can also play as a defensive midfielder. Chelsea are on the verge of signing Rennes’ Edouard Mendy for £18m.
But Fabrizio Romano adds that once that deal is wrapped up in the next few days, Blues have Declan in their sights. “Chelsea are in advanced talks and really ‘confident’ to sign Edouard Mendy as a new goalkeeper from Rennes,” he tweeted. Declan is said to be keen on a move to Blues but he wouldn’t push Hammers to sell him because of his relationship with the club.
West Ham United, however, need cash in order to fund what they would like to be a busy window of incoming. They value the English midfielder at nearly £60m, and the London club could pay that fee, though it’s likely they could drive it down. Adding Edouard and Declan would, arguably, represent Blues most successful period in the transfer market.
