Chelsea €35m-rated defender emerged as surprise transfer target for Barcelona

Barcelona are reportedly making several plans in the transfer market as Catalan club chief Eric Abidal plans a major squad revamp. Blaugrana could end up making a raid on London club as a result, with defender Andreas Christensen mentioned as one of their top targets. Frank Lampard wants to strengthen the back-line during the transfer window.

It stays to be seen if Blues would let Denmark international go, though it’s certainly fair to say the centre-back has struggled to make much of an impression in his time at Chelsea. Andreas has vast potential and can become a top-class defender if he continuous improvement.

Despite recently impressing on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, Christensen has not looked good enough for Chelsea, though that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll rush to let him go. Frank Lampard’s side have been under a transfer ban and are still waiting to find out if that will be lifted in winter.

If not, they could do without selling potentially useful squad footballers until they have the chance to sign replacements. The 23-year-old centre-back has long looked a promising young talent, though, and may well push for a move to play more regularly, especially at a big club like Barcelona.

Barcelona have fantastic consequences in La Liga this campaign as they are leading the table with Real Madrid. The Catalan club signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, Junior Firpo from Real Betis, Frenkie de Jong from Ajax and Neto from Valencia.
