Chelsea are keeping a close eye on the contractual situation of AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli, a report claims.
He is entering the final 18 months of his deal at San Siro, meaning the Rossoneri will have to make a final decision on his future soon.
The Italian star has been at AC Milan for most of his senior career and currently serves as their captain. Hence, Alessio remains a vital player for them, but they wouldn’t want to lose him for a discounted fee.
That may be unavoidable if Alessio comes no closer to penning a contract extension. Therefore, until the defender commits, then there may be an opportunity for the Blues.
According to 90min, the west Londoners are keen on Romagnoli. Thomas Tuchel wants to shore up his defence, even after the landing of Thiago Silva in the summer.
The former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain star has helped improve their fortunes in the defence, but is only a short-term solution. Therefore, the Blues could still be looking for a defender in their prime years.
Previous reports have claimed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, but 90min claim Alessio is on the agenda.
Tuchel has reportedly told Blues officials to keep track of Romagnoli’s situation. He’d be “intrigued” by the chance to sign the 25-year-old star for a cheaper sum.
The report adds that Chelsea are also keen on Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose deal is due to expire even sooner – at the end of this campaign.
