Chelsea in danger to miss out signing of Serie A defensive rock

Chelsea will reportedly have to switch their focus elsewhere as summer transfer target and Serie A champions Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani is set to sign a new deal with the Turin club.

The 24-year-old Italian defender has continued to struggle for regular first-team football so far this season, failing to feature for a single minute in Allegri’s squad has continued to opt for the Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini partnership in the heart of his defensive end.

In turn, that would arguably be enough to force the Italian centre-back to consider his future, however, according to The Sun, via the paper edition of Corriere dello Sport, it appears as though he may well be set to sign a long-term deal with the Turin club.

Given Chiellini, Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli are all over 30 and Rugani seems to be aiming to become Juventus defender.

With that in mind, that would make the decision to sign a new deal and remain in Turin a sensible one.

Nevertheless, with the more immediate lack of the first-team football coupled with the reported interest from Premier League giants Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri knowing him well following their previous stint together at Serie A club Empoli, moving to Stamford Bridge could also be seen as an attractive proposal.
