Brentford head-coach Thomas Frank reveals it is only ‘natural’ a player of Said Benrahma’s ability is being rumoured with a switch to top Premier League club’s Arsenal and Chelsea, however, insists the player is happy and not considers departure from the Championship club.
The performances of the Algeria international have played a pivotal role in the Bees’ promotion charge. With two games of the Championship season left, the ambitious west London team remain in with a shout of reaching the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Chelsea boss, Frank Lampard has already secure services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to his forward line ahead of next campaign, however, was last week linked with a move for the ex-Nice winger.
‘The Algerian Messi’ was earlier this week also rumoured with a move to Chelsea’s direct Premier League rivals, Arsenal who will be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer with both Alexandre Lacazeete and Aubameyang tipped to depart from the club.
‘I haven’t heard anything from my co-directors of sport,’ he said. ‘I don’t know anything and if I haven’t been told anything then I don’t think it’s true. It’s a rumour.
‘He’s enjoying his football at Brentford and we’ve a big aim to go for so I think it’s easy to know this isn’t true.’
‘No, he is fine,’ he added when asked whether the speculation is likely to turn the head of Brentford’s prize asset. ‘It won’t affect him.
‘If we’re doing well in the Championship – and you get it with any club that is doing well – players attract attention. That is natural.’
The 24-year-old forward has joined Brentford two campaign ago from Nice and is valued at £35million.
