Chelsea in pole position to sign €40m-rated Cameroon international

The London giants could reportedly seal the double transfer of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana. Chelsea need a new shot-stopper and a new left-back this summer and are now being linked with the duo for a combined fee of only £52m.

The London giants have also been targeting big names such as Atletico Madrid ‘keeper Jan Oblak, and Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell this summer. However, they could cost close to £200m combined, so it makes sense that the Blues are now looking at cheap alternatives.

According to latest reports, Blues are weighing up a double deal for Cameroon international instead, with the Ajax stars to cost a fraction of the prices of Jan Oblak and Ben Chilwell. Andre has shone in the Eredivisie, showing himself to be one of the finest shot-stoppers in Europe, and he could cost only £30m to sign this summer.

Frank Lampard has been left unconvinced by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s displays across the campaign which saw him not only dropped back in February but in the final games of the 2019/20 season as Willy Caballero was brought into the side.

79 goals conceded this term has been a concern for the Blues which saw them only clinch a top-four spot on the final day of the season. Nicholas Tagliafico, meanwhile, has also looked impressive for the Dutch club and has an asking price of only £22m.

Blues have spent big on signing Timo Werner this summer, as well as already raiding Ajax for Hakim Ziyech, while Kai Havertz could be next in another big-money move. The London giants could, therefore, do well to try finding some bargains to bolster at the defence.
