According to the latest transfer news from French media, Liverpool are ready to challenge their Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race for Napoli star Faouzi Ghoulam in the January transfer window.
The reports claim that Jurgen Klopp’s side have already made contact over a possible move for the 26-year-old left-back.
Ghoulam has been a mainstay in Napoli’s starting XI since joining the Italian giants back in 2014 but the Algerian defender is being stgrongly linked with a move to the Premier League in the new year.
It is believed that Chelsea are keen on Ghoulam but Liverpool are understood to be expressing the strongest interest in the left-back.
Famous French publication L’Equipe suggest the Merseyside giants have made an approach over the availability of the highly-rated defender.
However, the same sources also claim that Napoli immediately knocked back the approach and are determined to keep hold of Ghoulam for the remainder of the season.
The Algerian’s contract at Napoli expires at the end of the 2017/18 campaign and talks over a new deal have stalled in recent weeks. It’s believed Ghoulam is open to the idea of a move to England.
