Over the summer, Chelsea were interested in signing Lazio’s 23-year-old midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Along with west London giants, other European heavyweights Manchester United, Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Sain-Germain were all keen on signing the midfielder, after an impressive 17/18 season in which Serbia international almost helped Lazio regain a place in the Champions League.
Now, Segej Milinkovic-Savic, after staying at Serie A club, is ready for a contract renewal; one which will make him the highest paid player in the era of Claudio Lotito who is at the helm of the club since 2004.
The central midfielder’s contract will extend until 2023, earning €3 million per year with bonuses of up to €500,000.
More importantly, there is no release clause in €100 million-rated star’s new contract despite the reported attempts of his agent, Mateja Kezman.
This will be essential for Lazio as they look to make every penny they can from the sale of their superstar and to lose him for an amount less than his real market value would be disappointing.
The Blues were monitoring the 23-year-old midfielder until Maurizio Sarri and Jorginho arrived from Serie A this summer.
