Chelsea and Tottenham are keeping close tabs on highly-rated Ajax centre-back Jurrien Timber, as the defender could move teams next summer. The Blues are looking at him to add another quality footballer to their ranks.
It’s a common understanding that Chelsea always value a teenager, as in recent years, they have sent a host of names on loan for further development. The PL club have made important sales of their young, fringe stars in recent windows.
Alternatively, they could still add the Netherlands international and develop him into a first-team footballer. They might have a vacancy next summer with the future of Rudiger treading into uncertain territory.
However, the Blues may not necessarily view the Dutchman as a replacement for the German defender but would certainly jump at the opportunity of signing a young, quality prospect. As for the Spurs, they are looking to embark on the next phase of rebuilding their team.
Technical director Fabio Paratici is looking at footballers of a young age profile, and the Dutch centre-back surely fits the bill. They are also linked with a move for another Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch for the next summer window.
However, with many other big teams vying for the Dutchman, a decision for the footballer will come down to which team promises the best conditions. It stays to be seen if either Blues or Spurs manage to prise him away, but it looks likely the 20-year-old centre-back will move away from Ajax next summer.
