Chelsea are reportedly planning to launch a move for RB Leipzig defender  Dayot Upamecano.

The 21-year-old’s current deal with his German team is due to expire in the summer, and it is believed that he can be signed for a fee in the region of £53m the end of the current month.

A recent report suggested that the Gunners had beaten Manchester United to the services of the France U-21 international, who has made 27 Bundesliga games during the 2019-20 season.

However, according to The Athletic, the centre-back’s future is still up in the air, and the Blues could attempt to bring him to Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2020-21 season beating Man Utd in the race for his services.

Frank Lampard’s side, who are back in league action against the champions Man City on Thursday, have already agreed on a deal with Leipzig to secure the services of the German forward Timo Werner this summer.

Versatile forward Hakim Ziyech will also arrive at the club in the coming weeks as the West London club attempt to put together a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next campaign.

Manchester United have identified Upamecano as the perfect defensive partner for Harry Maguire, but now they face competition from Chelsea.
