Chelsea and Manchester United are both targeting a swoop for Roma defender Gianluca Mancini. The Italian star has impressed in Serie A this season, proving effective at both ends of the pitch for his side.
Mancini has featured in 24 of the Giallorossi’s 27 league matches this term, keeping seven clean sheets and netting four goals in the process.
The 24-year-old star was signed by Roma at the start of this season, having spent the 2019/20 term on loan at the club.
Mancini began his career at Serie C club Perugia, before signing for Atalanta back in 2017. His move to the Eternal City included a ten per cent sell on fee.
Premier League interest is nothing new for the central defender, having previously been tracked by Everton during his Atalanta days.
But now two of the biggest PL sides are understood to be keen to seal a deal as the Blues and the Red Devils prepare to battle it out in the transfer market.
Roma do not want to sell the towering centre-half, who they view as an important player in the club’s future but every player has a price.
The negative financial implications caused by coronavirus will result in clubs being able to propose offers in the region of £27m, which the Italian outfit may be tempted by at a time of uncertainty.
Gianluca was on the scoresheet during Roma’s UEFA Europa League Round of 16 first leg tie with Shakhtar Donetsk last week, helping his side to a comfortable 3-0 win.
