Chelsea are prepared to join the race for the La Liga outfit Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres, 90min reports.
The Blues are looking at new defensive players for 2022, which could see them launch a move for two new centre-halves.
Chelsea allowed Kurt Zouma to sign for West Ham United in the summer transfer market and wanted to replace him with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde. While the club were unable to seal a deal, Chelsea remain keen on the French ace.
However, Pau is now another player they’re tracking. The 24-year-old Spaniard is one of the most highly-regarded defenders in his country and was the man Manchester United were thinking about moving for before World Cup winner Raphael Varane became available from Real Madrid.
Pau’s stock has risen rapidly in the past year, with the star featuring for Spain at both UEFA Euro 2020 and the Olympics. Torres has also started the current campaign well, helping Villarreal to two clean sheets in four matches.
Thomas Tuchel’s side’s scouts have issued glowing reports on him and the towering central defender is now very much in their thinking.
Another star who continues to be of interest to the Premier League giants is Niklas Sule, who is out of contract at Bayern Munich next summer.
