Chelsea-linked forward wanted to leave Bayern Munich next summer

Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski reportedly wants to depart from the club this summer, as he seeks a fresh challenge in the latter years of his career.

The Poland international striker who becomes 33 on Saturday, had an exceptional 2020-21 season in front of goal, founding back of the net 41 times in the Germany top-tier to break the record previously held by Gerd Muller that had stood for 49 years.

Lewandowski arrived at Bayern Munich in July 2014 and has won the German league trophy in each of his seven campaigns at the club, as well as leading them to the Champions League triumph in 2019-20.

According to Sky Sports News, the Polish centre-forward is happy at Bayern, however, he would now like to move to another European team before the age of 35.

The striker is valued at £100m, though this figure is likely to price last year’s European Golden Shoe winner out of a departure.

Former Dortmund forward is believed to be frustrated by Bayern’s reluctance to sell him, however, he is unlikely to force a transfer as he has a good relationship with the club board.

Bayern’s number nine had previously been linked with a move by Premier League giants, Chelsea before they broke their transfer record by signing Romelu Lukaku, while Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on the striker, though their primary target remains Tottenham Hotspur’s hotshot.
