Jorginho’s entourage has opened the door to the Italo-Brazilian star leaving Chelsea and admitted a reunion with former Blues manager Maurizio Sarri is a ‘wonderful idea’.
He has been a regular under new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, having been in and out of the team when club hero Frank Lampard was in charge and has been in fine form at the heart of the midfield.
He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2023 and appears settled in west London now he is holding down a regular spot in the starting eleven but his representative has suggested that a return to Partenopei would appeal to the 29-year-old.
Current Napoli chief Gennaro Gattuso is expected to leave the club at the end of the campaign and reports in Italy claim that club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is considering re-hiring Sarri.
Maurizio has been out of work since being sacked by Juventus last year after a Champions League defeat to Lyon but his successor Andrea Pirlo is struggling to guide his team to a 10th Serie A title.
And if Maurizio does return to Napoli next season, Chelsea man may well be open to linking up with his fellow countryman again.
‘Sarri at Napoli with Jorginho is a wonderful idea,’ Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos told Radio Kiss Kiss (via Football Italia).
‘The player has two-and-a-half years left on his contract with Chelsea and an important salary. It’s possible on a football level, certainly. We’d have to see what De Laurentiis thinks.
‘Naples is a city that Jorginho loves very much, which marked an important part of his career. ‘Sarri is also an important coach for him, at which he expressed himself at the highest level.’
