Chelsea plotting move for 23-year-old star valued at £50m

Premier League giants, Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly ready to battle it out to secure services of Sporting Lisbon first-team star Matheus Nunes in the current transfer window.

The 23-year-old star has made a major impression with Ruben Amorim’s team, he was a key player in their 2020-21 Primeira Liga title triumph.

Nunes continued his fine form into the 2021-22 campaign, founding back of the net four times and setting up five more in 50 games across all competitions at club level.

The Portugal international has caught the eye of a number of teams across Europe in the past couple of years, however, he only extended his deal with Sporting until 2026 last year.

Wolves and Newcastle have nevertheless been rumoured with a move for Nunes, who would likely command in excess of £50m to depart from Sporting this summer.

Now, journalist Rudy Galetti reports that the Reds and the Blues are also in the race to secure the services of the midfielder, however, the duo will also face competition from the Citizens.

Galetti adds that Sporting are yet to receive an official bid for their star player.

As well as scooping the 2021-22 top-flight trophy, Nunes has also won two Portuguese League trophies and one Portuguese Super Cup during his time with Amorim’s side.
