Chelsea are poised to sign Barcelona youngster Gavi and are prepared to pay his €50 million release clause, the latest reports in Spain say.
The 17-year-old Spaniard has broken into the Barcelona senior team this season and has since been given his debut for the country’s national team.
Having already drawn comparisons with club icon Andres Iniesta, Blaugrana are desperate to tie the sensation down to a new long-term deal with his current contract set to expire in 2023.
His existing deal includes a buy-out clause of €50 million which the Premier League giants are ready to activate.
A Spanish daily sports newspaper Sport report the Blues could launch their move ‘very soon’ with club chairman Roman Abramovich prepared to green light the proposal in a bid to bring the ace to Stamford Bridge.
However, the Catalans hope to ward off interest in the player by getting him to sign an extension, with club owner Joan Laporta understood to have made the fresh deal a priority.
That new contract, until June 2026, would include an eye-watering €1billion exit clause, which the board have recently included in agreements for other prized assets Pedri and Ansu Fati.
