Chelsea are reportedly keen to involve English playmaker Ross Barkley in any proposal for West Ham United versatile midifelder Declan Rice.
While the England international has been strongly linked with a future move to Stamford Bridge, the Hammers are believed to be demanding around £80m for his signature.
Having already spent big in this summer transfer window and the ongoing financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, the Blues are reluctant to meet those demands.
However, according to Football Insider, the are hoping to tempt West Ham into signing Barkley as part of any deal.
Although Frank Lampard has previously spoken highly of the midfielder, he now finds himself down the pecking order following the arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.
With Chelsea valuing Barkley at £30m, they may be prepared to spend a further £40m in order to lure Rice at Stamford Bridge.
Both Jorginho and N’Golo Kante both have been tipped to depart from the club before the end of the current transfer window and Rice could be an ideal replacement to either of them.
Chelsea will face Liverpool on Saturday at Stamford Bridge in the second round of the Premier League fixtures.
