Chelsea eyeing move for 29-year-old Lens defender
Atletico Madrid and Chelsea are reportedly interested in securing the services of Lens defender Jonathan Clauss in the summer.
For a large part of his football career, the 29-year-old defender has not been on the radar of many top-flight teams across Europe, the wide player playing second tier football in Germany as recently as 2019-20.
However, Clauss’s career has progressed rapidly since making his first Ligue 1 game at the age of 28, starring as Lens became main contenders for the European places.
In his two years at Lens, Clauss has arguably been the best wing-back in the division, founding back of the net eight times and provided 17 assists from that role.
International recognition has followed with France, Clauss earning four national caps since being provided with his France debut in March of this year.
Although Lens would naturally like to retain the services of their vital player, just one year left on his current deal and the player himself will almost certainly want to take on a new challenge.
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Atletico and Chelsea are both contemplating whether to launch a move for the player over the coming weeks.
Despite Clauss following to turn 30 years of age in September, there is a feeling that his addition this summer would represent value for money.
La Voix du Nord reports that Lens are willing to do business for a fee in the region of £8.6m, that figure naturally attracting interest from elsewhere.
Chelsea plotting summer bid for 27-year-old Man City star
Chelsea have reportedly identified Man City centre-back Nathan Ake as a potential transfer target this summer.
Despite the teams high-profile takeover having been finalised for nearly three weeks, the Blues are yet to make any first-team additions ahead of the new seasons.
Furthermore, if reports are to be believed, the West London giants, will soon be a centre-forward short with Serie A giants, Inter Milan believed to be closing on an agreement with Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian’s expected exit would add to Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger having already left on free transfers, effectively leaving Thomas Tuchel in the market for signing top-class centre-back this summer.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea may attempt to rectify the situation by moving to secure a reunion with a ex-player.
Di Marzio claims that Tuchel is an admirer of Nathan Ake, who spent time in the Blues academy system and made a total of 17 games in the first team before his 2017 exit.
The versatile 27-year-old centre-back has since gone on to establish himself as a valuable team member at Etihad Stadium, making 40 appearances during his two seasons at the Etihad Stadium.
Given his status as backup under Pep Guardiola, there has been rumours regarding the Netherlands international’s future, rumours that he has previously played down.
Speaking to NOS earlier this month, Ake said: “Last season (2020-21) was very unhappy due to injuries, I don’t really count that year. This season (2021-22) I was really 100% present and I played more. You notice an improvement in yourself, how you play. I felt good.
“I will go into the [new] season with that intention (to play for Man City). I will do everything I can to play even more.”
Man City turned down Chelsea’s €25m bid for World-Class No.7 forward
Premier League giants, Manchester City have reportedly rejected an offer worth €25m (£21.4m) plus add-ons from Chelsea for their winger, Raheem Sterling.
The 27-year-old forward’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium is expected to be uncertain as he will soon be entering the final year of his current deal, while competition for places has intensified following the arrivals of Julian Alvarez and Erling Braut Haaland.
Premier League rivals Chelsea are believed to have stepped up their efforts to secure the services of Rahem Sterling in the summer, with the West London giants set to reinforce their frontline should forward Romelu Lukaku return to Inter Milan.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Blues regard Sterling as their primary transfer target in the summer and they have seen an opening offer of €25m (£21.4m) plus add-ons turned down by the Premier League champions.
Romano adds that Thomas Tuchel’s side are planning to make a second bid for the England international, with the Citizens valuing the attacker between €55m (£47.1m) and €60m (£51.4m).
Since joining the Man City from Liverpool in 2015, Sterling has managed to found back of the net 131 times and provided 95 assists in 339 games across all competitions, winning a total of 12 titles.
The Blues are also believed to be interested in securing the services of Sterling’s Man City teammate Nathan Ake, who spent time in the West London club’s academy and played 17 games before departing from Stamford Bridge in 2017.
