Chelsea weighing up £20m swoop for Manchester City defender
Chelsea are planning to make £20m move for out-of-favour Manchester City centre-back John Stones, according to the reports from Britain.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola as he has restricted to just 16 Premier League games during the 2019-20 season.
Furthermore, with the recent arrival of Dutch centre-back Nathan Ake from the Cherries on a five-year deal, it is looking increasingly likely that John Stones will head for the Etihad exit door in the summer.
According to The Mirror, Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the England international defender and believes that Stones can come good at Stamford Bridge.
However, the report suggests that Chelsea will refuse to pay more than £20m for former Everton defender who joined Man City for £47m deal back in 2016.
The ex-Barnsley man will see his current deal at the Etihad Stadium expire in 2022.
Meanwhile, Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for Ligue 1 outfits Rennes.
Despite impressing during the early stages of the campaign, Tomori has played only three games since the restart of the 2019/20 season.
While some of that period has been spent in the treatment room, the 22-year-old defender’s lack of game time departs from some uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge.
According to L’Equipe, Ligue1 outfits Rennes are keeping tabs on the situation ahead of potentially making an approach for the England U-21 star.
Deal Close: Chelsea set to meet £40m asking price for Brighton defender
Chelsea are reportedly planning whether to meet Brighton & Hove Albion’s £40m asking price for Liverpool long-term target Ben White.
Despite having never played a single minute in the Premier League, White has just helped Leeds United to make a promotion back to the English top-tier.
While the Yorkshire giants are unlikely to make his move permanent ahead of the next season, the 22-year-old defender is attracting interest from a wide range of clubs.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are ready to put themselves at the front of the queue by planning to meet Brighton’s asking price for his services.
Having witnessed his team struggled at the back throughout the season, Frank Lampard is eager to sign at least one new centre-back ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
Although top-flight champions the Merseyside Reds are also believed to be in the running, it appears unlikely that the Merseyside outfit will want to pay a significant fee for a 22-year-old defender who would only be regarded as a backup to Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.
Norwich City defensive duo Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis have been also linked with a switch to Anfield.

“The time has now come to move on. I am certainly going to miss my team-mates,” he wrote in an open letter to Blues fans published on Twitter.
“I will miss all the staff at the club who’ve always treated me like a son and I will miss the fans.
“I leave with my head held high, safe in the knowledge that I won things here and always did my best in a Chelsea shirt.
“My heartfelt thanks go out to all of you and God bless you.”
Willian has missed last weekend’s FA Cup final loss due to the ankle injury to the Gunners, as well as Saturday’s Champions League departure after a 4-1 defeat against Bayern Munich.
Having turned down the Spurs to join Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala back in 2013, Brazilian forward has managed to found back of the net 63 times in 339 games.
If reports are to be believed, he could remain in London with Arsenal are thought to be the main favourites to get the deal done.
