Chelsea handed a boost in their pursuit of Ajax key duo
Dutch giants, Ajax boss Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that three of his key players could be sold when the transfer window will be re-opened in the summer.
Despite the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, Man Utd and Chelsea have both linked with the likes of Andre Onana, Nicolas Tagliafico and Donny van de Beek.
Although Ten Hag has acknowledged that neither of the trio will be allowed to depart from the club on the cheap, he has revealed that requests have been made that players want to take new challenges.
Speaking to Het Parool, Ten Hag said: “The transfer market will start in August. The top leagues are now being played out, so the money flows are maintained. The market value of players will be slightly depressed, but not much.
“Based on their performance and ambition, a number of our players also want to make the move abroad. Agreements have been made with Andre Onana, Donny van de Beek and Nicolas Tagliafico, but it must be clear whether the market is indeed breaking loose.
“For Onana and Van de Beek, another year of Ajax could certainly be an option, for Tagliafico it is slightly different because of his age.”
Ajax have already agreed on a deal with Chelsea for Hakim Ziyech who will make the switch to Stamford Bridge on July 1, Adrne Onana and Nicolas Tagliafico have been also on the radar of Frank Lampard.
Man Utd meanwhile continues to be interested in securing the services of Donny van de Beek who has been identified as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba who has been tipped to depart from Old Trafford ahead of the next season.
Done Deal: 27-year-old long-serving midfielder signs contract extension with Chelsea
Chelsea midfielder, Marco van Ginkel’s previous contract ends this summer, however, his new deal takes his career at Stamford Bridge into its eighth campaign, although loan spells and injury have limited his appearances at Stamford Bridge.
The Dutch international playmaker has signed from Vitesse back in 2013 and made a promising start, making four appearances in quick succession until a cruciate injury in his second month halted his progress.
Having recovered, he spent the next campaign on loan at Seri A giants, AC Milan and finished his year in the Italian top-tier strongly as a regular in the side.
The 2015/16 campaign began back in England at Stoke City before a mid-campaign switch to his homeland and PSV Eindhoven.
Marco van Ginkel’s eight goals in 16 games contributed significantly to PSV winning the Dutch top-tier when they pipped Ajax on the final day. His stunning form earned him a recall to the Dutch national team after a four-year gap.
Further loan spells at PSV Eindhoven followed as he retained his one-goal-every-two-games ratio from midfield and a second Dutch title was won back in 2018.
Unfortunately, in July that year, he underwent further knee surgery and he has yet to make his playing return.
Van Ginkel has extended his contract with Chelsea but it seems that he will have another loan spell this year after he recovers.
Chelsea identified 24-year-old Ajax star as a perfect replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga
Chelsea have reportedly identified Ajax stopper Andre Onana as a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of the 2020/21 season.
Former Athletic Bilbao stopper has suffered mixed fortunes during his time at Chelsae, although Spaniard has regained his place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI over Willy Caballero after the restart of the Premier League.
Nevertheless, Kepa’s future continues to be shrouded ahead of the summer transfer window, and the Blues are believed to be making contingency plans in case the 25-year-old does seek pastures new.
The stopper is reportedly on Valencia’s wishlist ahead of a proposed two-year loan spell, and The Mirror claims that the Blues could look to secure a contract for Onana should Kepa Arrizabala return to his native Spain.
The West London club have been previously credited with a strong interest in the £30m-rated Cameroon international stopper, however, they would supposedly have to fend off interest from PSG for Onana’s services.
Lampard’s side have already been heavily active in the transfer market as they have already secured the services of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and RB Leipzig centre-forward, Timo Werner, to the English capital ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Onana’s current contract at Ajax will end in the summer of 2022.
