Chelsea are allegedly targeting Juventus centre-half Merih Demiral as a successor for Antonio Rudiger.
The German is set to leave the Blues this summer, with his deal due to expire, and Real Madrid are in pole position for the central defender, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
With Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta also out of contract in June, head coach Thomas Tuchel will be targeting a player at the back in time for next season.
According to Turkish journalist Yakup Cinar, via Totto Juve, the Londoners are considering a move for Merih as a replacement for the outgoing player.
He is currently on loan at Atalanta from I Bianconeri, where the star regularly plays in a back three. Thomas often deploys a similar formation, so targeting a defender who is comfortable in this setup could be a smart move from him.
Demiral recently turned 24, so the Old Lady man has time on his side.
With Thiago Silva ageing and because of possible outgoings in defence, landing a young centre-half who has also gained enough senior team experience would benefit the Blues immensely.
He already has 33 caps for his country’s national team and has been a regular in La Dea team this season.
