Bukayo Saka has told Arsenal he wants to extend his contract with the club and is set to become the North London giants’ highest-paid player, according to the reports.
The 21-year-old has entered the final 18 months of his current deal– which ends this summer of 2024 – and there had been reports that the Citizens and other European giants were starting to circle.
The Gunners have been working furiously behind the scenes to secure the future of their star player, having already tied up a new contract for Gabriel Martinelli.
Now the Daily Mail are claiming that ‘significant progress’ has been made towards an agreement in recent weeks and all parties are confident he will put pen to paper soon.
Saka has told the Gunners bosses that he wants to remain at the club, with the team’s position at the summit of the English top-tier standing having played a big role in his decision.
The deal is far enough advanced that the principles of the new contract are already in place, with just formalities left to discuss with the player and his entourage.
Saka is set to earn in excess of £200,000-a-week, plus bonuses if he agrees to sign new contract that will make him the highest earners at the club.
Once the Gunners have wrapped up a deal for Saka, they will look to tie down another their star player, William Saliba to long-term contract.
The Frenchman is also out of contract in the summer of 2024 and Arsenal are planning to secure their future.
