Chelsea-linked Barcelona centre-half Ronald Araujo is allegedly on the verge of penning a new long-term deal with the club.
The 23-year-old star has been a key player for the Catalan outfit this season, scoring four times in 36 appearances in all competitions.
As the Uruguayan player has less than 15 months remaining on his existing deal at Camp Nou, his long-term future at Camp Nou has come into question.
The west London giants have been strongly linked, with Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen also potentially set to depart Stamford Bridge.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued a positive update for Barcelona fans, stating that the South American could put pen to paper on a fresh deal in the “coming days”.
Sky Sport Italia journalist adds that Xavi’s side are now in the process of putting together the necessary paperwork for the Blues target to sign his Barcelona extension until June 2026, which will include a €1bn buy-out clause.
The Spanish head coach revealed to the press the previous week that Araujo has decided to pledge his future to the club, in spite of reported interest from the likes of Thomas Tuchel’s side, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
