Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is poised to sign a new contract deal at Old Trafford before the end of the year after continuing to impress manager Jose Mourinho.
The reports from Manchester Evening News claim that Herrera, who has been at the Theatre of Dreams since 2014, is relaxed about his contract situation and will commit his long-term future to the club.
Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the Spaniard and sees him as an important member of his dressing room at the Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old midfielder has only started two of Man United’s seven games this season but will be rewarded with a new and improved contract deal, which he is expected to sign before December.
He emerged as a surprise target for La Liga side Barcelona in the summer but is said to be settled and happy in Manchester.
Herrera came on for the final 15 minutes of Red Devil’s 4-0 victory over Everton last Sunday and Jose Mourinho praised his impact from the bench.
The Special One said: ‘There was a moment were I felt we did not kill it so we have to make it solid with Ander Herrera. From that moment we controlled the game.
‘The second goal went in, then game over. I think the performance was very good, especially in the first 30-35 minute, it was probably our best performance of the season.
‘We pressed them and they did not have a chance to get out, they did not have a shot, it was very impressive.
‘After that, Everton’s good players came out and showed their qualities. They gave us difficulty but I looked behind me on the bench and saw alternatives.’
