Arsenal have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid about a January deal for Martin Odegaard.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta wants to bolster his team at the Emirates this month and has identified the Norwegian ace as a top target.
The 22-year-old signed by Real Madrid back in 2015 but has only made eight league appearances for the La Liga heavyweights, being sent out on three loan stints during his time in the Spanish capital.
He impressed during his season-long loan spell at Real Sociedad last term but is still struggling for game-time under Zinedine Zidane, starting just three top-flight matches this term.
As a result of his limited games, Martin recently handed in a transfer request, according to reports, and wants to quit Real Madrid on another loan move during the January transfer market.
Arsenal have emerged as potential buyers, with Arteta hoping to strengthen his roster as the Gunners look to climb up the standings following a dismal start to the term.
Sky Sports say the Real Madrid management are currently considering Arsenal’s approach for the player, with the midfielder expected to be loaned out for the fourth time in four seasons.
Arsenal are said to be facing strong competition in the race to land the Norwegian, however, with at least one other Premier League side hoping to secure his signature.
Discussing the Gunners’ January transfer plans last month, Mikel said: ‘We are looking at options that we have, players coming in and out we will see what happens.
‘A really complicated window with the pandemic and the way the football world is at the moment so we’ll see how things develop.’
