Everton have reportedly set their sights on a winter deal for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard.
The Merseyside outfit will be in the market for a playmaker capable of netting goals and slotting straight into the Spanish coach Rafael Benitez’s side.
A Toffees source has told Football Insider that Jesse is on the club’s target list and the boss is a big admirer of him.
They’re planning to explore a loan-to-buy deal in which Jesse joins on a short-term loan that is converted into a permanent deal at the end of the term.
But Benitez won’t have a major transfer budget in January, when, as revealed it was reported last week, he’ll once again have to prioritise loans and free transfers.
The Red Devils have tried to raise the market value of the England international by offering the player a new contract but it has been turned down, as revealed by BBC Sport.
West Ham United were among the clubs who submitted offers for Lingard in the summer but United’s £30 million asking price put the Irons off.
Lingard had hoped to re-establish himself as an important man at United after his goal-laden Hammers loan last term but hasn’t started a Premier League game this season.
He has had only 146 minutes of action in all competitions despite scoring two top-flight goals as a substitute.
