Done Deal: Man Utd Signed Versatile English Defensive Rock

August 9, 2018

Manchester United have signed former Manchester City starlet Reece Devine on a short-term deal. The defender joined the citizens back in 2016 but has been snapped up by United after his deal expired at Etihad.

Manchester United academy manager Nicky Butt has overseen a huge recruitment drive since taking the role two years ago and the 16-year-old is expected to go straight into the club’s U18s squad.

Jose Mourinho criticised the quality of the club’s U23s squad after they were relegated last season and stated he brought the likes of Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes on tour because of a lack of options immediately beneath the first team.

Manchester United’s academy was decaying by the end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era at Old Trafford, but the Red Devils have still produced the likes of Paul Pobga, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard in recent years.

The Portuguese handed Scott McTominay the first-team role last season, and Andreas Pereira is expected to stay at the club after impressing during the club’s pre-season tour.

The Red Devils start their Premier League campaign against Leicester City next Friday and are hoping to make at least one signing before August 9.
