Arsenal have beaten Man United to the signing of Sunderland highly-rated forward Sam Greenwood.
Greenwood is seen as a potential star in the making and had also been ton the radar of German side Stuttgart.
The 16-year-old forward has scored 21 goals in 26 appearances for Sunderland’s Under-16s and Under-18s last season.
Posting a picture of himself signing a contract with the Gunners, Greenwood wrote: “Today is the start of a new chapter in my life signing for Arsenal.
“I can’t wait to get started, I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.
“Leaving Sunderland after 10 years the club I love and support was a very hard decision, I have met some special people along the way.
“Big thanks to Sunderland and all coaches past and present for everything they have done for me.
“I will never forget my roots.”
Greenwood has been in stunning form and his potential has seen him to receive a call-up to England at Under-16 level.
He follows French teenager Matteo Guendouzi through the Emirates door.
Gunners head-coach Unai Emery has also secure services of Lucas Torreira, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos since arriving this summer.
The Mirror report Manchester United were desperate to secure the services of Greenwood but now they will have to look elsewhere to strengthen their youth system.
