Liverpool have been credited with an interest in securing the services of £20m-rated Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White who’s currently playing for Leeds United on loan.
The Argus, a Brighton-based outlet, claimed that despite the Merseyside Reds being genuinely keen, White will make a return to his boyhood club next season and manager Graham Potter looks forward to offer him first-team minutes at the club.
But it now appears that now Liverpool are not the only interested team from the Premier League as Steve Bruce’s side, Newcastle United have joined the race, as reported by the Chronicle.
The young defender is on loan at Leeds from Premier League team Brighton so it’s unlikely for him to sign for the Magpies rather than make a return to his boyhood club.
That being said, the Merseyside Reds currently have Joe Gomez, who’s also stuggles to secure first-team minutes at the club.
Virgil van Dijk is obviously the first-choice option for Jurgen Klopp’s stating XI automatically, however, his partner at the defensive end could be anyone with German manager yet to make a decision who has been the second starter at centre-back position.
Dejan Lovren, a World Cup finalist, also wants more game-time and has been linked with a switch to Serie A in the last summer transfer window and if he decides to quit from Anfield Ben White seems to be an ideal candidate to replace him.
