Everton are reportedly close to finalising a deal to land Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old star was close to joining Rennes but is now in negotiations over a move to the Toffees following their failed attempt to bring in Gabriel Magalhaes, who signed for Arsenal from Lille in a £27 million deal.
Everton have been on a £65 million transfer spree, signing three players in the last four days – midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford, James Rodriguez from Real Madrid and Allan from Napoli.
Toffees chief Carlo Ancelotti now wants to focus on defensive reinforcements having seen his team struggle defensively and manage only five clean sheets in 21 matches since his appointment in December.
However, Fikayo is not the only option being considered with up to three potential targets being looked at.
Tomori impressed during the first part of the Blues’ last Premier League season and was called up to the England roster in October before making his senior debut in November.
He signed a new five-year contract in December but later fell out of favour under Frank Lampard and didn’t play a single minute after the campaign was resumed in June.
Thiago Silva’s arrival at the club may mean Tomori could be set for even less game time at Chelsea and he may consider leaving in the search for more senior team football ahead of the European Championships next year.
It could be his third loan stint out of Stamford Bridge after his experiences in England’s second division at Hull City and Derby County, the latter under current Blues head coach Frank Lampard.
