Preston North End manager Frankie McAvoy has lavished praise on Ben Davies’ qualities as a centre-half and insisted that he wasn’t surprised when the defender was purchased by Liverpool.
The 26-year-old star put an end to his long-term association with his former club and joined Premier League heavyweights Liverpool in a shock move during the winter transfer market of last season.
While Ben is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Reds, he remains on the club’s books, though the player is currently on loan at the EFL Championship club Sheffield United.
Frankie looked back at the centre-half’s time at Deepdale and explained that Ben was excellent under both him and former coach Alex Neil.
The boss heaped praise on his qualities as a defender and insisted that he was not surprised when Davies was signed by Liverpool this year but admitted that he won’t reminisce about him too much as Ben is no longer at the club.
“Ben’s time here was very good and people should be mindful of that. He was excellent for Alex Neil and myself. Ben is very good on the ball, quick, covers areas well“, he was cited as saying by the Lancashire Post.
“I was not surprised when he got signed by a bigger club. I won’t reminisce too much because he’s not our player now. I want to concentrate on the guys we have got in the building at the moment.“
