Liverpool hero Ian Rush believes his former team will be capable to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title next campaign.
Liverpool finished 2017/18 season on the fourth place and 25 points had separated them from Pep Guardiola’s league Manchester City, however, the Reds managed to reach the Champions League final where they faced Real Madrid.
When asked whether the Merseyside Reds can win the Premier League title next year, Rush told talkSPORT: “‘Why not?
“If you look at last season, I think there’s something to build on, they did really well and were great to watch.
“We weren’t expecting to get to the Champions League final, we got there and we’ve got to move forward now.
“Moving forward, realistically, is challenging Manchester City for the league. We beat them three times last year.”
Liverpool have already secured the services of RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita for next campaign and recently announced the signing of AS Monaco’s versatile midfielder Fabinho to their midfield. Lyon’s Nabil Fekir has been also linked with a switch to Lyon.
But the Red Legen, who won the five League titles times and remains Liverpool’ all-time leading goalscorer after founding the net 346 times, believes the club still need to sign several world-class players.
He continued: “We need three or four players in, but if we get that, I think we can genuinely challenge Manchester City”
