Liverpool midfield star Ben Woodburn, who spent last campaign on loan Oxford United in League One, has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the German club.

Freshly relegated side Fortuna Dusseldorf are believed to be looking at taking the talented Welshman on a season-long loan deal.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, which also reports a loan to the 2. Bundesliga would be the next step in Woodburn’s progress for the Reds.

The same report also claims that a move to the Eredivisie is likely, however, fails to mention any linked teams.

Woodburn has been with the Merseyside Reds since he was seven-years-old. Now a 20-year-old, the attacking midfielder has been one of the best talents at Anfield.

His career at hit a speed bump when he sustained a serious injury while on loan at Sheffield United in 2018, something which has repeated since.

It stays to be seen if Jurgen Klopp has any future plans for Ben Woodburn, however, a successful stint at the team like Fortuna could do the trick.

Harry Wilson, Rhian Brewster and Marko Grujic have all benefited from going on loans, where they’re able to progress and play regular first-team football.
