MARK HUGHES admits he has been impressed by Stoke City’s Boxing Day opponents in their debut season in the Premier League.
Huddersfield Town have accumulated 22 points from their opening 19 games in the top-flight and are currently in 11th spot in the table ahead of tomorrow’ game at the John Smith’s Stadium.
They claimed a point from a long trip to Southampton on Saturday, while the Potters returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.
Hughes hopes that victory will kick-start City’s season and is looking for another positive outcome from his side’s trip to West Yorkshire.
“Huddersfield are a good side,” he said, “but Saturday’s win has given us all a lift and we’ll look to go there and impose ourselves on them.
“Huddersfield have had exactly what they needed which was a good start. It’s always important that promoted teams start well and get points on the board that allows them to have that confidence to get through the season.
“It’s a long hard season and now is probably the time that may well start to test them. They may think they’ve done quite well for 18-odd games but then they realise they’ve got the same again to come and that’s when it becomes hard.
“We hope we can go there and affect them negatively, get a result and build on Saturday’s win over West Brom.”
