Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to finalise the transfer of Real Madrid defensive midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.
Man Utd are in the market for midfield reinforcements following the possible exit of Michael Carrick and uncertain future of Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini, and are expected to get the deal done for £52m-rated Brazilian midfielder Fred.
However, Portuguese head-coach Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield options further, and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that he is determined to sign Mateo Kovacic.
Croatia international midfielder recently hinted that he would be willing to leave European Champions in search of more regular first-team football, although the Los Blancos are unlikely to make any major transfer decisions before they lure Zidane’s replacement.
The 24-year-old midfielder has made 36 appearances for the Los Blancos across all competitions last campaign but started only 10 games in La Liga.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have made an approach to sign Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet, according to the reports from France.
Jose Mourinho is in the market for defensive reinforcements, however, the Red Devils have suffered setbacks in their efforts to sign their long-term target Samuel Umtiti, who recently signed a new five year deal with Barcelona while another their top transfer target Sokratis Papastathopoulos is closing in on Arsenal move.
Tottenham’s defender Toby Alderweireld has also been targeted, however, reports this week have suggested that the Red Devils and Spurs have not held talks regarding a potential deal.
According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils have stepped up their efforts to complete the signing of Lenglet from Sevilla this summer.
