Liverpool head-coach Jurgen Klopp has contacted Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in a bid to convince him to make the switch to Anfield.
The German boss has paired Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez this season, however. the Reds are just one goal shy of conceding the 22 that they conceded throughout the entire 18/19 season with nine games left before the end of the current campaign.
Though the Merseyside Reds are clearly going to be crowned as the Premier League champions, Klopp believes an experienced centre-back next to Van Dijk is an area he is keen on to strengthen.
The Senegalese international defender has made no secret of his desire to make a move to the English top-tier and has long been rumoured with a switch to Manchester United.
However, the Red Devils opted for Harry Maguire in an £80m deal last summer, leaving Liverpool a relatively free to secure the services of Koulibaly.
With club finances in dire shape following to the coronavirus pandemic, it is set to be a buyers’ market in the summer and the Merseyside Reds are one of the few teams that could be relatively shielded from the financial pain due to their success in recent years.
According to Le10 Sport, that’s led to Klopp calling Koulibaly to talk about a potential switch to Anfield.
Despite a big-money offer from the Magpies, Koulibaly is desperate to sign for a team that participating in the Champions League.
Koulibaly is believed to have been flattered by Jurgen Klopp’s decision to call him and is open to a move to Anfield.
Napoli are reportedly demanding around £90m for Kalidou Koulibably, however, will accept a figure of closer to £65m considering the coronavirus crisis.
