Juventus identified Firmino as an alternative to Chelsea £272,000 a-week striker

Serie A giants, Juventus are close to agreeing a deal to secure the services of Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino, according to reports in Italy, which will end their pursuit of fellow Premier League attackers Timo Werner and Anthony Martial.

Firmino’s first team minutes have diminished at Anfield, firstly thanks to the arrivals of Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota and then of Luis Diaz back in January.

Sadio Mane has departed this summer, however, the arrival of Darwin Nunez means that the South American forward will struggle to make the starting XI in the forthcoming season.

With the World Cup coming up this winter in Qatar, Brazil international forward is keen for regular game time to make the Brazil team and is interested in a move away from the Merseyside Reds for the first time since 2015 when he joined from Hoffenheim.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claim that Serie A giants, Juventus are about to capitalise on the situation and are close to a £19m contract for the 30-year-old.

Firmino only has one year left on his deal, which is why the fee is relatively low for a man of his quality and experience and the Merseyside Reds are happy to cash in, as they did with Mane.

If the deal gets over the line it will have an impact on Man Utd and Chelsea transfer business this summer as Juve were also eyeing up move for Werner and Martial.

Timo Werner is not happy at Stamford Bridge, having struggled to get near to his best form in two years with the team and he has also been rumoured with a return to ex-club RB Leipzig.

However, reports suggest head-coach Thomas Tuchel has blocked any move away for his compatriot, still planning to use him in the first team regularly this campaign.

Martial’s Man United future had looked pretty bleak while he was on a forgettable loan spell at Sevilla last campaign, however, he has returned to Old Trafford and is enjoying a great pre-season.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has been scoring regularly in friendlies under new head-coach Erik ten Hag, and with uncertainty surrounding the future of Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, Martial could have a vital role to play with the 20-times English champions this term.
