Lille midfielder set to force January exit amid Arsenal interest

Renato Sanches has acknowledged that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal may be keen on signing him from Lille, while also revealing that he feels ready to take the next step in his professional career.

The midfielder signed for Bayern Munich for an initial €35m five years ago as a highly-rated 18-year-old midfielder, but he failed to live up to expectations at the Allianz Arena outfit.

After a loan spell at Swansea in the Premier League, Renato joined Les Dogues in France – where the player has been rebuilding his reputation.

The 24-year-old star helped the French outfit win Ligue 1 last season, while the ex-Die Roten ace also put on a series of impressive showings for Portugal at Euro 2020 over the summer.

He has since been mentioned with a whole host of teams, with Arsenal allegedly ‘serious’ contenders, along with AC Milan, for Sanches’ signature.

In the latest interview with L’Equipe, he revealed that his struggles at the German club are in the past and he is prepared to make another big transfer.

‘When I arrived at Bayern, I was not ready to play in such a club. I was very young, and when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came,’ he said.

‘Today I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club and that changes everything.’

‘Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know,’ Renato added.

‘I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.’
