Chelsea and their league rivals Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up moves for LOSC Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the summer transfer market, reports in France say.
The 24-year-old star, who has been described as ‘the next Hugo Lloris’, has been called into several France rosters as he looks to usurp Les Bleus’ current number one.
Maignan is a former U21 international and is waiting to make his debut for Didier Deschamps’ first side after his impressive performances in Ligue 1.
Since replacing Nigeria international Vincent Enyeama, Mike has been superb between the sticks for Les Dogues.
And according to a report from a French source Le10 Sport (as per Sport Witness), Chelsea are locked in with Tottenham Hotspur in a £16 million transfer battle.
Manager Frank Lampard still unsure about world record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga as his no.1.
Having already invested heavily in the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, sorting the Blues’ rear guard is Lampard’s next priority after watching their UCL hopes take a huge dent at relegation-threatened West Ham United.
However, the west Londoners face stern competition from Tottenham with Jose Mourinho’s side hope Mike can replace Lloris at club level first.
His assistant Joao Sacramento knows Mike from his spell with Les Dogues and it claims the London side are ‘monitoring the dossier very closely’.
LOSC Lille are fully expecting Mike to leave this summer transfer market and brought in Leo Jardim last year and promoted the promising Luca Chevalier to their senior team squad.
