A report suggests that Liverpool have made a bid of £60m to secure services of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.
Manchester United have agreed an €85m (£72m) fee with the Catalan giants for the Dutch midfielder early on in the transfer window, however, De Jong keen on to remain at Nou Camp.
The Spanish heavyweights wanted De Jong to depart or take a significant wage cut, neither of which appealed to the playmaker, who was dead set against a move to Old Trafford as if he was forced from La Liga giants, Barcelona he wants to be playing Champions League football.
The 20-times English champions have now given up on De Jong, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, who reports the arrival of Casemiro at Old Trafford has ended their pursuit and now Liverpool are believed to joined the race for his signature.
Whitwell claims: ‘Frenkie de Jong set pulses racing by liking an Instagram post about Casemiro’s arrival, but that pursuit is considered done. The Brazilian is seen as De Jong’s alternative, especially given the cost.’
The Spanish reported that Liverpool have made an offer of £53m plus £7m in variables for De Jong considering their problems at the start of the season.
It’s reported De Jong could ease the concerns of Jurgen Klopp, who keen on to add a midfielder to his ranks before the end of the window.
