Liverpool could reportedly battle Manchester United for the services of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane during the upcoming transfer window.

The France international stays a key player for Los Blancos, however, his current contract is due to expire next June, and it seems likely that he will be on the move in the upcoming market.

The 20-times English champions have been heavily linked with the World Cup-winning defender, who could potentially be available for a fee in the region of £60m ahead of the next campaign.

However, according to Sport, there is also strong interest from Liverpool and Man City with Raphael Varane hoping to move to the Premier League in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old centre-back has won three La Liga trophies, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League titles with Madrid since arriving from Lens back in 2011.

The Frenchman found back of the net twice in 41 games for Zinedine Zidane’s team during the 2020-21 season, however, struggled for fitness in the latter stages of the season following a muscular problem.

Both Liverpool and Man Utd have secured a place in the next season’s Champions League and signing Raphael Varane would be a huge boost up for both teams.
