Liverpool at head of queue for Rennes in-form forward

Liverpool are allegedly leading the race to land Belgian winger Jeremy Doku from the Ligue 1 club Rennes.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been mentioned with the 19-year-old for a while and are continuing to monitor the Belgian’s progress.

The youngster has attracted widespread attention and the suggestion is that he could leave the club at the end of what will be his second campaign with them.

RTL Sport have now reported that the Reds are ‘best placed’ to sign the forward next year.

Though any transfer would more likely happen in the summer, the Anfield outfit could be short of options in the final third when Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane head to the African Cup of Nations in early 2022.

The skilful and fast winger is an exciting prospect who has impressed at Roazhon Park since completing a £22 million move from Anderlecht in the summer transfer market of 2020.

In his maiden season in the French top-flight, he made 30 appearances and netted two goals.

He made his Belgium debut in a Nations League clash versus Denmark last September and has since gone on to feature 10 times for his country.

Jeremy has endured a frustrating start to the current campaign after he suffered a hamstring injury versus Nantes in the summer and is yet to return to action.
