Liverpool boss desperate to sign Lille midfield star this summer

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ‘in love’ with Lille youngster Boubakary Soumare.

The 21-year-old star was strongly linked with a transfer away from his Ligue 1 club during the January transfer market, but the deadline passed with the player still at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Barcelona, Newcastle United and Real Madrid have all recently been touted with an interest.

Ad However, according to a Spanish newspaper Sport, Liverpool chief Klopp is ‘in love’ with the France U21 international and could attempt to bring him to the club during this summer’s transfer window.

Soumare has made 30 appearances for the French side this season but has only featured in one of his team’s last seven league matches, having reportedly shown his frustration at missing out on a winter move.

The highly-rated talent’s current deal with Christophe Galtier’s side has little over two years left to run.

Meantime, Liverpool scouts have allegedly been impressed by Ben White’s development but have identified a weakness in the centre-half’s game.

The Reds have been touted with an interest in the player, who has impressed on loan at Leeds United during the 2019-20 term.

White – on loan at Elland Road from Brighton & Hove Albion – hasn’t missed a single minute of Leeds’ Championship term to date.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are reportedly considering a summer move for the 22-year-old star, but according to Football Insider, the Reds have a reservation when it comes to the centre-back.

The report states that while White has impressed the club’s scouts with his ability on the ball, the side are concerned by his aerial ability, with the player standing at just 6ft, making him shorter than Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.
