Liverpool have been dealt a massive transfer blow in race for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as the general manager of Borussia Dortmund Hans-Joachim Watzke admitted that striker will only be sold to Real Madrid or Barcelona in the summer.
The Gabon international is possibly the hottest property in the world as a consistent goalscorer and still only 27 years old.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been heavily linked with a big-money transfer for Aubameyang who could demand a fee around £100m.
But Hans-Joachim Watzke has claimed the Gabonese will not be sold to their Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich or any other club, unless said side is Real Madrid or Barcelona.
During his interview with Sport1, Watzke said: ‘I think he will stay with us. But if they Real Madrid or Barcelona come in for him, maybe they would think it.
‘Every other team aren’t a reasonable alternative for him, and we’re not going to let him go to Bayern.’
Borussia Dortmund have lost almost every star player to Bayern Munich in recent years. Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels all left Signal Iduna Park to join Bayern with each former BVB star leaving in a cut-price deal.
But Aubameyang is under contract until 2020 and Dortmund have time to cash in on the striker should they wish.
