Hansi Flick has fuelled rumours that Thiago Alcantara could be ready to join the Merseyside giants by urging the star to move to the PL if he leaves Bundesliga club this summer.
Thiago has established himself as one of the finest deep-lying attackers in world football since joining the Bavarians from Barcelona back in 2013 and has won seven Bundesliga trophies on the bounce during his stay in Munich.
However, Spain international’s deal is due to expire in less than 12 months’ time and negotiations over an extension have reached an impasse with the midfielder seeking a fresh challenge ahead of the new campaign.
Reports last month suggested Reds had agreed on personal terms with the former Barcelona midfielder and the newly-crowned English champions must now agree on a transfer fee with the Bavarians.
But Hansi appears resigned to losing the Spanish midfielder and says he ‘understands’ the footballer’s decision after seven years of service in Bavaria. ‘As a person and as an athlete, I can understand him,’ the Bayern boss said. ‘Thiago played for Barcelona, and seven years for Bayern.’
‘Now he wants a new challenge, which in my opinion must be the Premier League.’ Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic are set to follow the 29-year-old midfielder out the exit door at the Allianz Arena and Flick hopes to find suitable replacements for the trio.
He added: ‘If we are going to lose players of this class, Thiago, Coutinho and Perisic, we have to replace them with the same quality.’ Earlier this week, Bavarians chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that Thiago Alcantara would be allowed to leave as long as the club receives a ‘fair’ offer for his services this summer.
