Liverpool eyeing move for Lyon’s creative forward

Liverpool could attempt to land Lyon forward Memphis Depay ahead of strong competition in the summer in order to strengthen their attacking options, according to a recent report from Fichajes.

There could be reinforcements on the way this summer due to the club’s bad form, with the Netherlands international, who once had an ill-fated spell with Manchester United, among the early contenders.

The 26-year-old attacker, who plays with the Reds’ central defender Virgil van Dijk on the international stage, has 13 goals and six assists in 24 Ligue 1 games this season.

Barcelona are also said to be interested in Depay, whose deal expires in June as Lyon look powerless to stop the player from leaving France for nothing.

In spite of his struggles during his previous time in the PL, he has gone on to reach the heights of the early expectations which saw comparisons made with living legend Cristiano Ronaldo by his compatriot Ronald de Boer.

Should the Reds ensure UCL qualification for next campaign, a race in which Jurgen Klopp’s team look to have enveloped themselves uncomfortably, landing the Dutch star would be a major coup and could exponentially improve the attacking variants that Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal.

Elsewhere, Dayot Upamecano is the German tactician’s ‘dream signing’ as per German outlet Bild.

The Reds purchased defensive reinforcements on deadline day in the form of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davie, but they remain interested in landing Upamecano.

Liverpool will face competition for the France international, who has also been linked with Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea as well as the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the latest weeks.
